In this op-ed originally published in McKnight’s Long-Term Care News, Charles de Vilmorin, SVP of Resident Engagement at LifeLoop, explores the three stages of family engagement in senior living: from basic communication to true partnership, and why maturity in this relationship drives stronger outcomes, deeper trust and long-term growth.
Here is an excerpt from the McKnight’s Long-Term Care News op-ed:
"In long-term care and senior living, families do not disappear at move-in. They transform.
They move from hands-on caregivers to advocates, from daily decision makers to emotional anchors, and from crisis responders to long-distance cheerleaders. The maturity of a senior living or care community can often be measured by how it evolves and nurtures this relationship.
We think about this progression in three stages:
One: Basic communication
Senior living and long-term care have an extraordinary opportunity. Families don’t expect perfection, but they want and need connections. When communities respond with transparency, structure and partnership, something remarkable happens. Families stop standing on the outside looking in — they step inside the circle."
