Actionable team building tips for thriving communities | LifeLoop

Written by Mia Ballan | January 28, 2025

Last week, our team came together in Orlando, FL, for our annual all-company offsite event and sales kick-off. The energy was contagious as we reconnected in person, strategized for the year ahead, and strengthened the bonds that make our work meaningful. There's something extraordinary about being surrounded by people who share a singular mission and believe deeply in the impact we're making together.

At LifeLoop, our mission drives us to continuously improve—not just to stand out in the market, but to truly earn our place as the best partner for operators striving to create flourishing communities. During our event, we reflected on how the principles that guide our success can be applied to senior living operators. Below, we share key takeaways to inspire you to foster a healthy culture, innovate continuously, and elevate the experiences of residents, staff, and families.

Stay connected to your mission

The demands of daily operations can make it easy to lose sight of the “why” behind the work. Whether you’re a corporate life enrichment director planning annual strategies or an activity coordinator creating next month’s calendar, staying connected to a shared mission and vision can help drive meaning and purpose in your work.

For us, gathering in person allowed us to realign with our mission to help senior living communities flourish. A highlight was our founder Jack York sharing a video from TaleGate, featuring seniors and centenarians whose stories reminded us of the lives we aim to enrich. Moments like these reaffirm why we create solutions that support staff, empower leaders, and keep senior residents engaged.

Senior living operators can foster a similar connection by embedding mission-driven values into daily operations. Integrating your organization’s mission into project goals and employee evaluations can help serve as a reminder to always keep the resident’s well-being at the center of every decision that’s made in your community. Sharing resident and family testimonials with employees is another way to highlight the impact of your team’s efforts. By centering your mission, you can inspire your staff and fuel your community’s success.

Show staff appreciation

Teams that feel valued perform better—and with high turnover rates in senior living, showing employee appreciation is essential. To make sure our own team members feel appreciated, we kicked off our event with an awards ceremony to recognize team members for their exceptional contributions. Hosting the event itself was another way to celebrate our collective achievements, allocating time for both work and play.

Operators can adopt similar strategies by recognizing staff accomplishments, organizing team bonding events, and prioritizing staff well-being. Making investments in resources that make staff lives easier and provide better work-life balance is another effective way to not only drive efficiency in operations, but help ease staff stress and boost satisfaction.

Stay in tune with your audience

One of the highlights of our event was a customer panel where we gained firsthand insights into their challenges and successes. Hearing directly from our customers reinvigorated our purpose and deepened our understanding of how to serve them better.

For senior living operators, understanding and adapting to the evolving needs of prospective and current residents, as well as their families, is essential for shaping an effective strategy. This involves actively gathering feedback through surveys, testimonials, and direct conversations. However, simply listening isn’t enough—taking actionable steps based on this feedback is key to driving meaningful change. By incorporating customer insights into your services, you help show them that you value their input and care about giving them an exceptional experience.

Empower your sales and marketing teams

Our offsite also included our annual sales kick-off, where we aligned on strategy and explored innovative ways to support our customers. Cross-functional collaboration among sales, marketing, and customer success teams generated fresh ideas to address holistic customer needs.

Drawing from our last point, understanding your customer (prospective residents and family members) and keeping them at the center of your marketing and sales strategy is critical for developing messaging that resonates. Then, empowering your sales and marketing teams with tools like cohesive branding, eye-catching displays, and streamlined newsletters can help them highlight your community’s value and attract new residents.

Maximize human connection through technology

Although our team is fully distributed, gathering in person reminded us of the irreplaceable value of human connection. While we’re committed to advancing innovative solutions like AI capabilities that streamline operations and save staff time, we know technology is a means to an end: enabling more meaningful human interactions.

The challenges facing the senior living industry, like high staff turnover, cost constraints, and senior loneliness, are not ones that can be solved by a single individual or even organization. Collaborating, both within our own teams and as an industry, helps us to find innovative solutions that help older adults lead happier, healthier lives. We’re honored to get to serve the senior living industry in this way, and grateful that we get to do it with a group of passionate, mission-driven people.
