A Lesson in Listening

This session will focus on the importance of patiently and intently listening. The old saying of "We have two ears and one mouth for a reason," has never been more important than now. As caregivers, we have a unique role in communicating with those we support but we also have an even greater responsibility to listen unconditionally. This includes listening to what is being said as well as what is not being said.

Objectives

  • Understand the importance of active listening and the components of successful listening.
  • Understand verbal and non-verbal communication as a measure of successful listening.
  • Learn different styles of communicating and their efficacy in successful listening."
