During this free half-day virtual event, the Validation Training Institute joins LifeLoop and the National Council of Dementia Minds to explore how performing arts, visual arts, and literary arts can enhance the lives of people living with cognitive change. Each of the three panels will include a person living with cognitive change or Neurocognitive Disorders (NCD), who is active in one of the creative arts, plus two experts in the field doing interesting, creative projects. Interactive exercises will conclude each panel session.

Visual Arts and Living Well with NCD
Visual arts include painting, sculpture, ceramics, and other art forms. Dr. Daniel Potts, author of Bringing Art to Life, and Dr. Amy Elliot of Miami University, Scripps Gerontology Center’s project Opening Minds through Art, will be part of discussing how visual arts can be used by people living with NCD, to express their needs and feelings.

Performing Arts and Living Well with NCD
Performing arts include theater, singing, choirs, and dance. Bringing this subject to an audience puts it front and center before groups of people who might have been reluctant to see the beauty and artistry that can arise from cognitive change. Performance artists and people who have developed programs designed to support expression in these art forms will discuss how performing arts can change society - in every performance.
Session 3: 3:00 - 4:00 PM ET / 12:00 - 1:00 PM PT
Literary Arts and Living Well with NCD
Writing poetry, an autobiography, or even journaling can be an excellent form of expression and connection for many people. Angela Burton, creator of Feet to the Fire Writers’ Workshops, joins poets and writers to discuss the benefits of sharing through writing.
