At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, with senior living providers facing the challenge of continuing to find ways for their residents to stay connected with family and friends when in-person visits were restricted for their own safety, iN2L released an enhanced version of its senior-friendly tablet including Lifesize’s quick-start video chat application. With a simple tap on the tablet’s touch screen, senior living residents can visit with their friends and loved ones whenever they want. In addition to facilitating personal connections for family and friend video chat sessions, the Lifesize video application can also be used to support scheduled healthcare appointments as telehealth visits in accordance with recent allowances issued by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The same quick-start functionality helps residents easily “attend” scheduled appointments with primary care, specialist care, urgent care, mental health, nutrition, and therapy providers via video. Because Lifesize supports video feeds for up to eight parties in the same video chat session, family members can also participate remotely in telehealth appointments by joining through popular web browsers.
