Living Longer, Better | Designing for life: Moving beyond “beautiful” memory support
Event Details

Memory support design is often judged by how beautiful, modern, or hospitality-forward a space feels. But beauty alone does not create purpose, autonomy, connection, or meaningful engagement.

This session explores how memory support environments can move from passive décor to active engagement tools. Michael Zywicki and Jennifer Boonstra will share how Anthem Memory Care thinks about designing spaces that support resident identity, staff workflows, family confidence, and daily life, not just the tour experience.

Learning objectives:

  1. Explain why memory support environments must go beyond aesthetics to support autonomy, identity, emotional safety, engagement, and daily quality of life.

  2. Identify common design and operational mistakes that occur when memory support expertise, staff workflows, and engagement-readiness are not built into the planning process.

  3. Apply practical strategies for aligning stakeholders including operations, sales, marketing, ownership, design partners, and frontline teams around resident-centered, engagement-ready memory support environments.

Speakers:

  • Jennifer Boonstra, Director of Resident Experience, Anthem Memory Care

  • Michael Zywicki, VP of Programs and Engagement, Anthem Memory Care
